WOMEN’S ORAL HEALTH AND HORMONES.
Hi all..
Greetings to all my dear readers and viewers..
Yet again back with another mindboggling blog giving you an impression of the HORMONES on the WOMEN’S ORAL HEALTH.
We all need to know what actually are HORMONES?
HORMONES ARE chemical messangers produced by the body to initiate certain functions.
Hormones are carried by the bloodstream which means blood is the first thing much affected by the high and the low levels of the hormones.

Let’s get to know that women are more susceptible to ORAL HEALTH PROBLEMS as continuous Hormonal fluctuations or changes are happening.
How the hormonal fluctuations bring inevitable changes in teeth tissues or body’s immune response to the toxins entering into the mouth.
First,Blood supply to the soft and hard teeth tissues gets affected owing to changes in hormones.
Second,BODY’S IMMUNE RESPONSE VARIES FROM TIME TO TIME CHANGES IN THE VARIATION OF THE TOXINS THAT ENTERED THE BODY.
Factors affecting the above situations in women’s life gets very much influenced by good healthy habits and lifestyle choices.
Five SITUATIONS WHERE THE WOMEN’S ORAL HEALTH IS AT RISK FOR ORAL HEALTH PROBLEMS.
Puberty.
Monthly menstrual cycle.
Using birth control pills(contraceptive pills).
Pregnancy.
Menopause.
Let me make you understand one by one:-
PUBERTY:-
During puberty, the levels of hormones -estrogen and progesterone during pregnancy causes the increased blood flow to the gums
Gums become red ,swollen and tender bleed on brushing and flossing.
The sudden influx/rush or the HORMONAL AVALANCH of the two powerful hormones affects the gums in a drastic manner.
The MONTHLY MENSTRUAL CYCLE:- marked by increase in the PROGESTERONE during menstrual cycle resulting in the red, swollen gums.SALIVARY GLANDS SWELL -UP and CANKER SORES DEVELOP.
This is evident 2-3 days prior to the periods and weans off post start of the periods.
BIRTH CONTROLPILLS/ORAL CONTRACEPTIVE PILLS:-
Use of oral contraceptive pills also lead to increase in the levels of PROGESTERONE.
Again the same effect happens in termsbof inflammed gums.
PREGNANCY:-
HERE THE HORMONES TRIGGER THE pregnancy GINGIVITIS SEEN DURING THE PREGNANCY TRIMESTERS.
During pregnancy, progesterone hormone increases that aggravates the gingival inflammation.
Here, the morning sickness, nausea and the dietry changes put a great impact on the soft tissues in the oral cavity.
If the pregnant women is facing the Periodontal condition, then she might likely have a baby too early(PREMATURE BIRTHS)or too small(underweight-LOW BIRTH RATES).
So regular CHECK-UPS MUST WITH REGULARISED CLEANINGS(PROPHYLAXIS).
MENOPAUSE:-
A sharp drop in the the hormones can affect the oral health challenges.
Menopause is associated with oral health complications due to both the medication and the hormonal changes.
Oral repercussions associated are:
BURNING SENSATION.
SENSITIVITY TO HOT AND COLD FOODS- Due to RECEEDING GUMS.
DRY MOUTH (XEROSTOMIA) can further exacerbate the oral risk.
Menopause is asked by decrease/decline in estrogen levels causing decrease in the levels of the BONE DENSITY.
